Chris Pérez Life Journey
In 1989, Selena y Los Dinos’s lead guitarist Daniel Garcia married and left the industry.
Quintanilla had heard wonderful things about Pérez from other Tejano performers. He and the rest of the band investigated Pérez’s skills while he rehearsed with Shelly.
Chris was asked to join Selena y Los Dinos during a concert by Quintanilla, and he responded that yes, he would like to sing with them.
Pérez agreed in part because of the sound of Los Dinos, which was “hip and sophisticated” than other Tejano musicians, and he looked forward to learning more about musical arrangement from A.B., whose work he admired.
In San Antonio, Texas, Pérez was arrested for driving while intoxicated and speeding in November 1990. His cousin got into a scuffle with a police officer, at which point Pérez came to his cousin’s defense.
He was let go without charges, but he informed Selena and Abraham about his encounter with the police.
Relationship with Selena
In 1989, Pérez and A.B. composed Selena’s Coca-Cola commercial jingle. After the business accepted the lyrics and Selena recorded the ad, A.B. took the band on holiday to Acapulco, Mexico.
During their journey, Pérez recognized he was attracted to Selena, despite the fact that he had a girlfriend in San Antonio. Pérez felt it would be best for both of them if he tried to withdraw from her, but found it tough and decided to give it a shot.
Pérez and Selena met at a Pizza Hut restaurant where they expressed their affection for each other.
They kept their relationship secret from her father owing to the fact that Abraham might try to separate them. Selena was stressed, as she did not want to hide her emotions.
Suzette ended up telling Abraham about their relationship, who removed Pérez from the bus and informed him it was over. Despite Abraham’s opposition, the couple continued their affair clandestinely.
The issue got so far bad in terms of their relationship, as a result, Abraham fired Pérez from the band.
After being dismissed from the band, he moved back in with his father and began playing music wherever he could get his hands on guitar.
I started to enjoy my life again, he wrote, “free of that nerve-racking situation with her father and the other members of Los Dinos.”
Later, Pérez successfully married Selena after Abraham agreed and even apologized for his worse behavior to them and their relationship. Unfortunately, Selena got killed by Saldívar, who managed Selena’s boutiques and fan club, in 1995.

This prompted Abraham to file a lawsuit against him because it went against a property agreement signed by him and the family two months after Selena’s death in 1995.
The suit also resurrected a long-standing rivalry between the family and Pérez, who in September 2020 accused the Quintanilla family of stealing his legacy with Selena on Instagram.
