Colin Montgomerie was born on 23 June 1963 in Glasgow, Scotland. He grew up in Yorkshire, England, where his father, James Montgomerie, was Fox’s Biscuits’ Managing Director.
He began his early career with Ilkley Golf Club, where he was trained by the previous World Professional Bill Ferguson.
He went to school at Leeds Grammar School and Strathallan School in Perthshire, Scotland.

Amateur career
Montgomerie attended Houston Baptist University in Texas, where he played on the golf team and emerged as its top player.
