When Nixon was planning conspiracies against the Democratic opposition, Gordon progressed up the ranks and finally became his right hand.
This eventually resulted in the Watergate scandal, in which Gordon and other members of Nixon’s staff broke into the DNC offices at the Watergate Complex.

However, President Jimmy Carter reduced the sentence to eight years, and Gordon was released on parole after serving 4.5 years.
