Lena Waithe was born on 17 May 1994 and is the daughter of Lawrence David Waithe, who perished when she was fifteen years old.

Waithe has provided the voiceover for the tagline of AT&T commercials since 2018. Queen & Slim, a road trip-crime film starring Jodie Turner-Smith and Daniel Kaluuya, was written and directed by Waithe.
