Who is Mary Berry?
Mary Berry is a British food writer, chef, baker, and television presenter. She studied catering at college after being encouraged in domestic science courses at school.
She then moved to France to study at Le Cordon Bleu culinary school when she was 22 years old.

Mary Berry was born on March 24, 1935, to Margaret (1905-2011) and Alleyne William Steward Berry (1904–1989), the second of three children.

Robert Houghton, Mary’s great-great-grandfather on her father’s side, was a master baker in the 1860s who supplied bread to a local workhouse in Norwich. Her mother passed away in 2011 at the age of 105.
At the age of 13, she was stricken with polio and spent three months in hospital. As a result, she has a twisted spine, a weaker left hand, and a thinner left arm.
She has stated that being stuck at home for several months while sick “hardened [her] up” and taught her to make the most of every opportunity she would have.
Berry was educated in Bath, where she reported that her academic abilities were “hopeless” until she took domestic science classes with a mentor called Miss Date, who was very encouraging of her culinary talents.
